About 40,000 people have completed their General Equivalency Diplomas in Iowa over the past ten years. Without a HS diploma, it can be difficult to make an adequate wage. The reason so many seek out GED programs is because they are one of the best ways to demonstrate your capabilities to employers. General education development demonstrates your intellectual capabilities and work ethic, making the job application process more rewarding with less effort. Another major benefit of the education is the opportunity to continue your education and enroll in college. Without a high school diploma, it isn’t possible to open as many doors for yourself as it would be with a general equivalency diploma. The sooner you invest time in your education, the sooner it will pay off.

There are no educational or academic prerequisites to enroll in GED classes online or otherwise prepare for the test. Anyone can independently prepare themselves for the exam, and there are many online resources available for these types of self-starters. For those who seek support or guidance through an educational program or test-prep course, there may be some specific admissions requirements based on the program’s requirements. It is not necessary to enroll in a class to take the test, however. The only requirements for taking the test are that the applicant be at least 16 years old and have the consent of their parent or guardian. After the age of 18, there is no need for parent consent. All test-takers must be residents of Iowa and not be enrolled in high school or have completed their diploma previously. There is a $10 testing fee.GED Classes Iowa

Top Test Sites

There are a handful of testing sites across Iowa. They are primarily based at community colleges and are centralized around the Des Moines area. Some community colleges provide adult education programs that provide more guidance than community colleges. They provide test-prep programs and counselors for those seeking help, making the process a bit simpler. For example, the Des Moines Area Community College Success Center has special accommodations for GED programs. Some other community colleges that can provide the GED include Indian Hills Community College, Hawkeye Community College, and Southwestern Community College. There are also facilities more specific to adult education and these may be more useful to the most anxious test-takers. Some adult education centers that also provide the test include the Washington Learning Center and the Iowa City Learning Center.
